Help me take a stand against blood cancer
I'm CUO Lucy Clark, representing South Queensland Brigade, Australian Army Cadets.
This year, during our Annual Field Exercise, South Queensland Brigade is taking on the World's Greatest Shave — not just to cut our hair, but to stand alongside the thousands of people and families affected by blood cancer.
Cadets has taught me a lot over the years. Resilience. Mateship. Courage. But most importantly, it has taught me that when something matters, you step up.
Blood cancer is something that has affected so many people and families, often changing lives in ways we can't always see. Behind every diagnosis is a person, a family, a story, and a fight. The Leukaemia Foundation is there for those people through some of the hardest moments of their lives, while also helping fund research that brings us closer to better treatments and, one day, cures.
For me, cutting my hair in front of my fellow cadets, that I've supported and grown alongside isn't just about changing how I look. It's about being willing to give something up that means something to me, for something that means so much more to someone else.
We talk a lot about courage in the Australian Army Cadets. This is one small way I can put that courage into action.
