Each year, over 19,000 people in Australia are diagnosed with a form of blood cancer, including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma.
Blood cancer is the second most common cancer diagnosis and the second highest cause of cancer–related deaths in Australia. While the incidence of many other cancers has improved over the years, blood cancer remains an exception. Its rates continue to rise— growing by as much as 47% in the past decade alone.
I’ve joined the World’s Greatest Shave to raise funds for the Leukaemia Foundation, in support of the individuals and families facing the perils of blood cancer.
This cause matters to me, close to being on a personal level. I know it often feels like only a distant dream for everything to be cured or solved— but I believe that showing up with empathy, in whatever way we can, is part of the human nature. So I’m dyeing my hair to start conversations, raise awareness, provide solace for patients, and hopefully make a difference.
