Help me take a stand against blood cancer
On 1 May 2026, at just 37 years old, I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a currently incurable blood cancer affecting plasma cells in the bone marrow.
Myeloma is most commonly diagnosed in older adults, with the average Australian diagnosed at around 71. However, it can affect people of any age, including those in their 30s and 40s. More than 2,600 Australians were diagnosed in 2023, over 22,000 Australians are living with myeloma, and the number of people affected is projected to continue rising.
One of my greatest fears following my diagnosis was losing myself beneath the appointments, medications, side effects and physical changes. But I am learning that cancer may change parts of my life, it will not change who I am.
I am still a mum, a wife, a professional and a fashion lover. I am still me.
Before commencing chemotherapy, I am taking on the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave. I will be shaving and donating my hair on 3 August 2026, to help another person experiencing cancer-related hair loss continue to feel like themselves during treatment.
Right now, more than 170,000 Australians are living with the devastating impact of blood cancer, and 17 lose their lives every day. Your donation will help fund vital research and support services for patients and their families.
