Help me take a stand against blood cancer

Hi, I'm Robbie.

This year, I'm taking part in the World's Greatest Shave for two very important reasons, my little sister Charlotte, and my uncle.

Charlotte was born with an extremely rare genetic bone marrow condition called Diamond-Blackfan Syndrome. Because of this, her body struggles to produce enough red blood cells. She tires easily, grows more slowly than other kids, and faces daily challenges most of us never have to think about.

Her genetic condition doesn't just affect her now, it also leaves her more susceptible to developing blood cancer in the future. In fact, people living with Diamond-Blackfan Syndrome have a significantly higher lifetime risk of cancer. That's something no family is ever prepared to hear.

On top of that, Charlotte was born with six holes in her heart and spent the first six months of her life in hospital. I didn't get to hold her until she was 2 months old, something most siblings get to do straight away.

At the same time, my uncle is fighting his own battle with leukaemia. Treatment is tough, but he's facing it with incredible strength and determination.

Watching two people I love face blood-related illnesses has shown me just how important research, treatment and support really are. The Leukaemia Foundation helps families navigating hospital stays, treatment plan, uncertainty and hope, and that's why this cause means so much to me.

So I'm shaving my head.
