They say everything is bigger in Texas – the steaks, the hats, the belt buckles, the egos.
Well this year I’m bringing something even bigger: ME! plus 20 years of fundraising stubbornness, and a set of clippers with absolutely no respect for what’s left on top. In 2026 my campaign goes multi-national - I’ll be shaving it ALL off in Austin, Texas at my daughter-in-law Jessica’s newly opened Training Mate HiiT Gym. https://trainingmate.com/studios/austin-soco/ (promotion intended) . Sadly , while humans around the world find even more ways to hurt each other, blood cancer marches on and we need to stop it.
Every 27 minutes an Australian is diagnosed with blood cancer. Over 140,000 people are living with it right now. Globally, over 1.2M people are diagnosed every year and 700,000 a year don’t make it. Behind every one of those numbers is someone’s mum, dad, brother, sister, mate, kid. Someone who’d give anything to go back to the unremarkable beauty of a healthy, boring, Tuesday afternoon. I’m sure like me we have all lost someone or know someone who has been hit with this indiscriminate disease. It can, and has, been beaten and we can help more beat until we lose no one .
For 2026, we are running a Bloody Aussie Legend dual campaign – raising money for the Leukaemia Foundation back home in Australia AND for Blood Cancer United’s right here in Austin Texas. Same shave, two countries, twice the impact. Because blood cancer doesn’t care about your passport, and neither should we.
Over the last 20 years, you lot – my incredible supporters – have helped raise over $500,000 for the Leukaemia Foundation. Together we’ve been the largest single fundraiser of all time for the foundation. Read that again. That’s not me – that’s us. Every dollar you’ve chipped in, every guilt-ridden click after my annual email landed, every “oh for FFS, Graham’s at it again” followed by a donation anyway – THAT is what got us here. THANK YOU.
So this year lets do it all again for Australia and kick off our first American fundraising chapter. The Leukaemia Foundation’s goal of zero deaths from blood cancer by 2035 is getting closer. With breakthroughs in immunotherapy, CAR-T cell treatments, and precision medicine, we’re not just throwing money at hope – we’re funding the science that’s actually saving lives. Your donations literally put researchers in labs and patients in trials. And now we can do that on both sides of the Pacific.
