Shaven Haven

Thursday 7th Aug

After 10 long weeks of campaigning and 10 unnecessarily worded posts, the day has finally come: Shaven Haven.

$12,000 is the final amount raised and puts us as the 8th highest raiser in QLD. I set myself the lofty target of $10k to raise, purely to make my original email sound more balanced, and I never thought I would get anywhere near that, let alone clear it! The jury is out as to whether you are all paid too much, are incredibly generous people or just hate long hair on middle-aged men – but I suspect it is most likely a combination of all three.

Money is not the only donation, because thanks to good people at Hairhouse, they were also able to donate my hair to be turned into a wig – for someone less fortunate that has their heart set on rocking a natural salt and pepper look.

DJ would be the first one to tell me that I now need to start working on my personality. But it’s all worth it for you – I miss you brother!

Perfect Pairs

Thursday 31st Jul
Some things are just better together: Bacon and eggs, roast and gravy, wine and cheese, beer and football. But in seven days’ time, one perfect pairing will finally come to an end: Myself and long hair.

Long hair has formed part of my identity for most of the last 10 years, leading to favourable and flattering (but wildly wide of the mark) comparisons with Orlando Bloom. However, I will need to find a new doppelganger from the 7th August 2025, after I get rid of my only asset and take a set of clippers to my mane for the first time in 10 years.

Thank you to all the generous donators to date. Together we have raised a total of $10,903, which is $903 more than the very ambitious target I set myself 9 weeks ago, and is enough to fund access to a clinical trial and provide hope for two patients where standard treatment has failed – exactly what my friend DJ went through ten years ago.

There is still another week to go before this rude head is unveiled, who will be the lucky last donation? Hit the link below to sponsor me.

Numbers Man

Thursday 24th Jul

This month I celebrated my birthday, and they say age is just a number. But numbers have always been a big part of my life ever since I learned to count:

  • In highschool, I used to count down the days until the end of the term;

  • In university, I used to calculate the exact minimum mark I required to pass the subject; and

  • In football, my coach was always telling me the number of kilograms I had to lose before the start of each season.

But right now, the numbers that mean most to me are:

  • Only 14 days left before I take a set of number 1 clippers to my ~20cm long hair, in the memory of a 10/10 bloke called DJ.

  • With the support of all 72 donators, you have helped me to raise $10,718, which is 107% of my goal figure and ranks me the 10th top raiser in QLD (with only $81 required to move into 9th).
Help be more than just a number by donating a number of dollars to my World’s Greatest Shave campaign. Hit the link below to sponsor me.

Heat Loss

Thursday 17th Jul

The temperature is rapidly dropping in QLD and while it is common to see beanies and hoodies around the worksite at this time of year, I currently have the luxury of a full head of hair to keep me warm for that early morning chill.

You apparently lose only 10% of your body heat through your head, but in three weeks’ time I will be the first to tell you this is a common misconception and it is in fact 100%.

It is all for a good cause because thanks to everyone’s support to date, I have raised a total of $10,639 towards the Leukaemia Foundation. This is enough to fund access to a clinical trial and provide hope for two patients where standard treatment has failed – which is what DJ and his family went through ten years ago.

You can’t warm my head, but help warm my heart by providing a donation – no amount is too little. Hit the link below to sponsor me

The Decider

Thursday 10th Jul
Arguably Australia’s greatest sporting rivalry was decided last night, with the Maroons being victorious in The Decider.

All 17 Blues players lost their battles and their supporters are feeling a little disheartened until this time next year when their spirit will be renewed. In the cruel game of blood cancer however, there is no decider and 17 people lose their battle with leukaemia every day, with limited treatment options available to lift the hope of those suffering.

Help raise the spirit of those 150,000 people suffering with this disease, and their families, by deciding to donate money to my Shave for a Cure campaign, turning my hair likeness from Carrigan to Collins in 4 weeks’ time. Hit the link below to sponsor me:

Curls get the girls

Thursday 3rd Jul

They say curls get the girls. Luckily I married my wife while I had them as I’m only 5 weeks away from these flowing locks being replaced by one rude head.

But it turns out there is more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good looking – because right now there are 150,000 Australians who have been diagnosed with blood cancer and 17 of these people unfortunately lose their battle every single day.

With everyone’s support, total donations are now $10,320 which means I have already reached my $10k goal. This is enough money to fund access to a clinical trial and provide hope for two patients where standard treatment has failed – which is what DJ went through ten years ago.

This doesn’t mean I will stop campaigning and sending shitty memes – there is always a need for more money to this worthy cause. Lend a hand to those who find themselves in this curly situation, by donating some money to get rid of my curly situation in 5 weeks’ time. Please follow the link below to sponsor me:

Financial Geniuses: 7th August

Monday 30th Jun

End of Financial Year 2024/25 is just around the corner. Some look at this ominously, others relish the return they are about to receive. One thing both sets of people have in common: Channeling their inner financial guru to bump up those deductions.

Great news! Every donation over $2 is tax deductible and no amount is too little. Help boost your own tax return by boosting my donations to the Shave for a Cure foundation. Follow in the footsteps of fellow financial geniuses before you who took advantage on a quick return to the hip pocket, and helped me raise $8,834 to date.

6 weeks left of fun in the winter sun with my bun. Please follow the link below to sponsor me: https://www.worldsgreatestshave.com/fundraisers/deancooper/2025

Brisbane's Richest Race

Thursday 19th Jun

Brisbane’s richest race, the Stradbroke Handicap was run on the Saturday 14th June. Some of the country’s most impressive manes were on display that day, but none are quite in the same ballpark as mine.

This will all change because in 7 weeks’ time, I will finish my race to raise enough money to fund a clinical trial, and my mane will be tamed in the name of DJ.

Together we have raised over $8,547 for the charity already - which has put me in the box seat for reaching my $10,000 goal.

This is a great start, but there's still a long time left in this race. Hit the link to help me kick clear!

Time is the most precious gift

Thursday 12th Jun
“Time is your most precious gift because you only have a set amount of it. You can make more money, but you can't make more time.” – Rick Warren

DJ was always the first one to give me his time. He was always keen for a hit down the nets, to have a game of FIFA or to have one too many beers. He would have turned 36 this Saturday and what I would give to spend a little more time with him.

While this hasn’t been able to happen for the last ten years, I am trying to do the next best thing and using my time to raise money to fund the fight against blood cancer, allowing families like DJs to be able to spend more time with their loved ones.

With all of your help, I am currently sitting at 81% of my goal – which I am very proud of.

Weeks left to go? Only eight. Don’t hate, donate! Help me reach my goal by using the link below or sharing it to other networks for even greater support. Link: https://www.worldsgreatestshave.com/fundraisers/deancooper/2025

Hair was a symbol of strength

Thursday 12th Jun

Throughout history, since ancient times, the presence of great warriors and heroes whose distinctive hair has symbolised strength, wisdom and social status has been highlighted in various civilisations and cultures. In both Eastern and Western cultures, figures such as the Samurai, Vikings, Apaches and other ethnic groups have attributed great value to long hair. This hair symbol was associated with an almost magical power, as told in famous stories such as that of Samson.

Whilst my hair may look similar to the cult figures of yesteryear, in 9 weeks’ time my hairstyle will mirror the strength of some of the modern-day warriors who are fighting for their lives with leukaemia. Currently 150,000 Australians have been told the devastating news that they have blood cancer. I hope that through this sponsorship process, that one day we will be able to find a cure, and nobody else will have to suffer the same way as DJ and his family have.

All donations are welcome, so a shout out to the early donators. With all of your help, together we are already at 56% of my goal and that is enough to fund 3 months of lab costs for a research project – incredible! It’s not too late, make a difference and help normalise a new symbol of strength - donate now! Link: https://www.worldsgreatestshave.com/fundraisers/deancooper/2025

Tame the Mane

Thursday 29th May

The Essendon Bombers are in town tonight taking on the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba. Whilst they have little hope to tame the mane of the reigning Premiers, there is one mane that will definitely be tamed in 10 weeks’ time: My own.

On the 7th August 2015, I was rocked by the news that one of my oldest friends had lost his four-year battle with leukaemia. DJ Hall was just 26 when this disease took his life and left his family and friends devastated. Everyone that knew DJ, knew he was a fighter and not once did he give up. He exhausted every treatment option in Australia, and when that was no longer an option, he took to the USA for more trials, until his body was no longer able to sustain it. Maybe if there were more research projects funded here, he and many others might still be with us today – and just $10,000 raised can help fund a clinical trial in Australia.

10 years on, as a tribute to this 10/10 bloke, I will be shaving my head in 10 weeks’ time with the aim of raising $10,000.

Please help Tame The Mane, sponsor me today and help me reach my goal!
