Help me take a stand against blood cancer

Hi, I'm Bianca, and this year I'm taking part in the World's Greatest Shave to support Australians affected by blood cancer.

Over the past few years, I've faced some significant personal challenges and life events that were completely outside of my control. Like many people, I've experienced periods where stress and adversity left their mark in ways I never expected. Instead of allowing those experiences to define me, I've decided to turn them into something meaningful.

By shaving my head, I'm choosing to transform a difficult chapter of my life into an opportunity to give back. What could have remained a private struggle is becoming a public act of courage, resilience, and community support. This is about taking something that carries stigma and self-consciousness and using it to create hope, awareness, and positive change for others.

I'm shaving my hair to raise vital funds for the Leukaemia Foundation, helping support Australians living with blood cancer and their families. The money raised will help fund life-changing research, provide practical and emotional support services, and bring hope to people facing some of the toughest battles of their lives.

Every donation, no matter how big or small, will make a real and tangible difference.

If you're able to contribute, I would be incredibly grateful. If donating isn't possible right now, sharing my page and helping spread awareness would mean just as much.

Thank you for supporting me, the Leukaemia Foundation, and the thousands of Australians affected by blood cancer every year.

Together, we can turn challenges into hope and make a difference where it matters most.

Turning the Tables on Hair Loss: Why I’m Braving the Shave for Something Bigger

Thursday 4th Jun
For a long time, my relationship with my reflection has been complicated. Recently, an overwhelming, high-stress event completely out of my control crashed into my life. The feeling of total helplessness brought daily anxieties and a constant barrage of involuntary, intrusive thoughts. When stress hits your nervous system that hard, your body looks for any way to process the tension. For me, that stress manifested physically, and before I knew it, I was dealing with significant, visible hair loss. The social and emotional weight of hair loss is heavy. It thrives entirely on secrecy. Every changing area brings a fresh wave of embarrassment, fear of judgment, and vulnerability. You find yourself constantly calculating social barriers: How do I style it to hide that spot? Will people notice? What if they ask? It is an exhausting mental loop that slowly pushes you toward social isolation, hiding away just to escape the imaginary spotlight of other people’s eyes. But hiding is exhausting. And quite frankly, I am done letting a stress response dictate the boundaries of my life.I decided to stop playing defense. Instead of letting hair loss be a source of shame that isolated me, I decided to turn the tables on it completely. I chose to strip this situation of its power by transforming my personal vulnerability into a meaningful action driven by a desire to give back to the community. That is why I have officially signed up for the Leukaemia Foundation's World's Greatest Shave.
On Thursday the 11th of June, I am going to shave my head completely bare and reveal my new look proudly to the world. But this isn’t just a personal reset; it is a conscious choice to stand in solidarity with those who have it way worse than I do.
While my hair loss was triggered by stress, children diagnosed with Leukaemia lose their hair to aggressive, life-saving treatments without any choice at all. They are forced to experience the exact same social vulnerability, fear of judgment, and deep shame at a heartbreakingly young age. No child should ever have to carry the emotional weight of feeling embarrassed or isolated because of their appearance while they are literally fighting for their lives.By fundraising through the World's Greatest Shave, every dollar we raise together will go directly toward providing vital emotional care, practical support, and accommodation for these resilient kids and their families.
It also funds groundbreaking medical research to give them a brighter, cancer-free future. Taking part in this allows me to take my own complex situation and convert it into a driver for real, tangible change.Following the shave, the real work begins with the regrowth phase.
While my hair will be gone, the underlying daily anxieties won't magically vanish. But my strategy moving forward is simple and intentional. As my hair grows back, I am committing to radical acceptance. When those uncomfortable, heavy feelings arise, I am learning to just acknowledge them. I will sit with them, process them, and let them pass like waves, rather than running to escape them.

I’ve got my collection of beanies ready if I need a comfort shield while my scalp resets.

Hair loss can make you feel entirely powerless, but only if you keep it in the dark. By bringing it into the light, embracing the discomfort, and using it to support the brave kids who need us most, I'm completely rewriting the script. This isn't a loss; it's a powerful fresh start.
