My cousin Rowan, a 20-year-old second-year Physiotherapy student at the University of Queensland, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia in late 2024. His normal routine of uni, sport, and work came to a halt, replaced by six months of intensive chemotherapy and serious complications like infections.

Now, doctors confirm that a stem cell transplant from a matching donor is his only chance for survival, but no full match has been found yet despite a global search. Rowan's mixed Eurasian heritage, Chinese from his mother and Scottish/English from his father, makes it harder to find a compatible donor, which is why campaigns like Register for Rowan are urging people with similar backgrounds to join the registry.

Donations to the Leukaemia Foundation will fund critical blood cancer research, patient support services, and initiatives to grow the stem cell donor pool - directly helping people like Rowan access transplants and better care.

If you're 18-35 and healthy, register as a potential donor via Stem Cell Donors Australia—it's a simple cheek swab that could save his life or another's. Thank you for your support.
