Tashy's Story
Everyone knows how intense medicine can be. Endless hours of study, lectures, labs and placements. We spend a lot of time learning the theory but what happens when theory becomes reality. Last year our beautiful medical student Kat was faced with one of the toughest battles a young family can face.
Kat's beautiful 4 year old Tash had her life turned upside down back in September 2025. Days that should be filled with play, laughter, and time with family and friends have instead been replaced by hospital visits, blood transfusions, intensive chemotherapy, and invasive procedures. No child should have to endure this, yet it is the reality Tash and her family face every day.
To show Kat and her family just how much love and support surrounds them, the WUMSS crew has organised a World’s Greatest Shave for the month of March. The official event will be held after Sports Day at the Wollongong Campus, with more details to be shared closer to the date.
Help us take a stand against blood cancer
Right now, over 150,000 Australians are facing the devastating impact of blood cancer, and 17 lose their life every single day.
That’s why we're taking on the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave. By donating to our page, you’ll help us raise funds and awareness for blood cancer, and fuel life-changing research projects and support services for patients and their families.
Any amount – big or small – will make a real, tangible difference.
