If you’re thinking about lopping off those luscious locks, did you know that you can also donate your hair to be made into a wig?
Hair donations help create charitable wigs for people experiencing hair loss, including those undergoing cancer treatment. It’s a simple way to give your hair a second life, and make a meaningful impact. Read below to discover how you can donate your hair to be turned into a charitable wig thanks to our partners at Sustainable Salons.
Wigs for cancer patients: why it’s important
The great thing about donating your hair is knowing it will get a second life – being made into a wig for someone who has lost their hair due to cancer treatment.
For many people diagnosed with cancer, hair loss during treatment can feel like their losing part of their identity. By choosing to donate your hair, you’re helping provide a wig for them – restoring their confidence and offering support when they need it most.
It’s a simple act that can help someone feel more like themselves again.

Steps for donating your hair for wigs
Now that you know the hair Sustainable Salons can accept when it comes to making charitable wigs, it’s time to learn how to donate your hair.
1. Prepare your hair before you cut: Section your clean, dry hair into multiple ponytails and secure each one with an elastic band around 2cm below where you’ll cut. Make sure to plait each ponytail and tie it at the end.
2. Measure your ponytail: Your hair donation can become a wig for someone in need if your ponytails measure over 20cm long.
3. Cut your hair: With a friend or hairdresser's help, cut each ponytail above the top elastic.
4. Bag your hair: Once all the ponytails have been cut, place them in a zip-lock bag and seal it before posting.
5. Post it off: Post the hair donation to Sustainable Salons at the address below.
