A Hair Journey with Purpose
In late 2023, my family and friends started making comments on how long my hair had grown, and they were right. Around this same time, I was thinking about how my business, The Straightening Salon, could create more meaningful impact. We were set to register as a Sustainable Salon in January 2024, something I was proud of, and our first step toward giving back. But I wanted to do more.
I started researching, and learned that Sustainable Salons are affiliated with the World’s Greatest Shave. I read that hair donations over 35cm can be made into children’s wigs. Knowing I had this long, healthy hair and was ready to cut it off without a second thought, suddenly felt unfair and wasteful. So instead, I committed to growing it longer, with intention to donate over 45cm to be made into high-quality wigs for children affected by cancer and alopecia areata. And just like that, my hair had a purpose.
Right now, over 150,000 Australians are facing the devastating impact of blood cancer, and 17 lose their life every single day. By donating to my page, you’ll help me raise funds and awareness for blood cancer, and fuel life-changing research projects and support services for patients and their families.
