I'm fundraising for the World's Greatest Shave
On 14 January 2022 one of our family members was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. The past two years have been a roller-coaster ride and particularly for our family member who has spent most of that time in hospital receiving treatment. In May 2023, I decided to do my bit to help him and the many thousands of people who have been diagnosed with a blood cancer, by registering for the World's Greatest Shave. I set my target at $20K and got off to a flying start, thanks to the support and generous donations by my family, friends and colleagues. In August 2023, I did the shave, surrounded by a heap of supporters! Whilst I hadn't quite reached my target at that point, I had every intention of continuing with my fundraising campaign. In September 2023, our family member was told his treatment wasn't working and that he needed a stem cell transplant. My husband was contacted and without hesitation, he underwent the testing regime. We were so buoyed when the results came back, and he was a 12/12 marker match for the transplant. Treatment continued as our family member needed to be in remission before the transplant could go ahead. Several months passed by, unfortunately without success. In January 2024 things took a turn for the worse and we received the news that remission was unlikely and there was little more that could be done. We are enormously devastated and deeply saddened that our family member passed away on 2 February 2024. Please get behind me and help to support this very worthy cause, I know it won't help our family member now, but it will go a long way in helping to find a cure for blood cancer.Thanks for having your say
