Shaving my head for the World's Greatest Shave is something I have wanted to do ever since I first heard about it. This year, I finally decided to take part, not just to raise money, but because it’s close to home.
My mum lost her five-year battle with cancer. Watching someone you love go through cancer changes you forever. It showed me how cruel the disease can be and how many families are affected by it every day. Even though she is no longer here, I wanted to do something that would make her proud. By shaving my head, I am showing that I will continue to spread awareness, raise money, and support the fight against cancer in her memory.
I am also doing this for my best friend, Ellie, who recently rang the bell after winning her own battle with cancer. Seeing her strength throughout her treatment inspired me. She faced challenges that most people could never imagine, yet she never gave up. Her courage reminds me why fundraising events like the World's Greatest Shave are so important.
. I would be lying if I said I wasn't worried about shaving my head. Like many people, I care about how I look. But at the end of the day, losing my hair is nothing compared to what cancer patients go through I have a choice to loose my hair, whilst the people who struggle with cancer everyday don’t.
I hope that the money I raise helps make a difference. Maybe it will fund research that saves a life. Maybe it will provide support for a family going through a difficult time. Maybe it will help a child receive a wig and feel more confident during treatment. Whatever the impact, I know that every dollar raised gets one step closer to a future where fewer families have to experience the pain that cancer causes.
This shave is for my mum. It is for Ellie. And it is for everyone whose life has been touched by cancer.
