Help me take a stand against blood cancer
This year I’m doing World’s Greatest Shave and finally getting the buzz cut I’ve wanted for a long time. After a year of bush pilgrimages, long walks, and remembering who I am when I’m outside and unobserved, this feels like a small but meaningful act of freedom. There’s a gentle nod here to a certain early-2000s pop culture moment — not rebellion for shock value, but choosing myself without asking permission. Shaving my head means raising money for cancer support and research, and also freeing myself from the daily mats and knots of thick, curly hair. Don’t worry — even with a buzz cut I’ll always be a mermaid at heart. If you’ve got a few dollars spare, it goes to a genuinely good cause. No pressure — but thank you if you do.
