Let's do some good together

A few years ago, I was having dinner with a friend. I mentioned getting a haircut which prompted her to ask if I had ever considered letting it grow out. I had done so in the past, I had toughed out the awkward growth phase between pixie and bob several times, only to cut it all off once it hit my shoulders. It always felt like there was one innocuous reason or another to cut my hair at the time, so I figured, why not try growing it out again?

That was roughly three years ago. And I tried, I really did. I can now say, with absolute certainty, that long hair is not for me; it’s just too much hassle.

But as much as I dislike having my hair long, there are people out there who are missing theirs. Hair is an important part of our identity and some of us don’t have the choice in it leaving. Some treatments for Leukaemia can result in hair loss, which can be distressing for people going through it. I won’t pretend to understand how difficult that is but I do want to help in any way I can. My hair can be used for good; by turning it into a wig, I can offer some comfort to someone during one of the toughest life events anyone could ever go through.

I want to support with more than just donating my hair, but through donations that can support those going through it. By donating, we can provide comfort, accommodation, and cover travel expenses for those affected by Leukaemia. Our money can fund the research needed to help cure cancer.

I have a goal of $700 so it’d be great if you could help me achieve that by donating. Any amount, big or small, will make a real, tangible difference. All donations over $2 are tax deductible, and it goes towards helping people affected by Leukaemia and research for a cure. All good if you can’t, you can still help by spreading the word.  On the 20th of June, I will be shaving my head. I will be livestreaming it on Instagram so feel free to give me a follow @ittserinmydude for the big day.

Let’s do some good. Let’s cut this hair.
