Help me take a stand against blood cancer
My name is Hunter. I am a Grade 6 student from Maiden Gully Primary School. On the 14th of August, I will be shaving my head to raise money and awareness for Leukaemia at my school assembly. Leukaemia is a form of cancer that has affected family and friends of mine. When I was in Grade 3, I was inspired by Mr Loverso, who had grown his hair to participate in the World's Greatest Shave. Since then, I have been growing my hair with the end goal to both shave for a cure in my final year of primary school and raise as much money and awareness as I possibly can. I have seen the devastating effects that cancer has had on myself, my family and friends of mine. I was both shocked and heartbroken to find out that close to 300 Australian children are affected by Leukaemia each year. When my mum was my age, one of her close friends was diagnosed with Leukaemia and sadly passed away. To think that kids my age and younger are going through this is truly upsetting to me. For these reasons, I have chosen to shave my head. My hair will be donated to the World's Greatest Shave, where they will use my hair to make wigs for the children that have lost theirs during their treatment.
