The World’s Greatest Shave, formerly known as Shave for a Cure, is one of the country’s longest-running and most iconic fundraising campaigns.
It’s been bringing Australians together to champion a good cause for over 25 years.
Some have a personal connection to blood cancer, while others simply want to have fun, take on a personal challenge, or help others in need.
Thanks to the funds raised by our World's Greatest Shave community, the Leukaemia Foundation provides patients and families impacted by blood cancer with practical and emotional support, care and information. Because we want people not just to survive, but thrive.
Do you have to shave or are there other ways to take part?
While thousands of Australians step up to shave for cancer every year, it’s not the only way to take part. Cutting or even a colouring your hair are other popular ways to take on the World’s Greatest Shave – while still making the same impact.
What’s important is that you’re taking matters into your own hands. You’re letting blood cancer patients know you’re in their corner. And that’s bloody beautiful.
When is the World’s Greatest Shave?
World’s Greatest Shave month takes place every March, however you can take part at any time of the year. That’s the beauty of the World’s Greatest Shave.
Where to shave, cut or colour your hair?
You can take part in the World’s Greatest Shave anytime, anywhere. Whether it be from home, work, school, a park, or down at your local.
Many participants choose to rally their community together, meaning you can see Australians shaving, cutting and colouring their hair in all sorts of places - from shopping centres and schools to backyards and local hangouts.
We recommend connecting with local hairdressers or barbers. Tell them about your upcoming World’s Greatest Shave event, where the money goes, and ask if they will donate their time to help you shave, cut or colour your hair free of charge.
If you are part of a school or workplace fundraiser, your whole team can band together to host an event at your school assembly or workplace. The bigger the event, the more donations you’ll receive, and the bigger your impact will be!
For an event with your friends and family, we recommend you reach out to your local venue – like a pub or shop – and ask if they would like to host your event.
Donate your hair and take your impact even further.
What if we told you the hair you buzz or lop off doesn’t just help Australians facing blood cancer, but the environment too?
We’ve teamed up with Sustainable Salons to recycle hair into wigs for cancer patients, and floating hair booms to mop up oil spills in our oceans.
