Rules and policies

Get a group togetherEvent policies:

  1. Clipper not blade shaves
    • For health and liability reasons, blade shaves cannot be undertaken at public shave events. Hairdressers will generally not shave heads with a razor for the same reasons.
    • We recommend using electric clippers set at number one or two clipper length.
    • If you wish to shave down to the skin, we recommend you do this at home with a friend.
  2. Banking sponsorship money
    • Deposit all the money you raise directly into the Leukaemia Foundation's account using the deposit slip provided. You can go to any branch of the bank featured on the deposit slip.
  3. Use of sponsorship money
    • Do not use sponsorship money you have raised to purchase materials; such as wax, hair spray, clippers, t-shirts, or to pay your hairdresser to participate.
    • Do not issue a receipt for donated goods or services.
  4. Media
    • If you are a coordinator of a group, contact your local media to tell them about your involvement. However, if the media require information about the Leukaemia Foundation, leukaemias, lymphomas, myeloma and related blood disorders they must contact us on 1800 500 088.
  5. Responsibility
    • Before starting, it is your responsibility to advise the helper/hairdresser exactly how you want your hair coloured or shaved.
    • The Leukaemia Foundation is not responsible for any misunderstandings.
  6. No doorknocking
    • Do not doorknock your neighbourhood to collect sponsorship or promote the World's Greatest Shave.
    • In many council areas around Australia , doorknocking is illegal without a special permit.
  7. Age
  8. Be sun smart
    • Protect your newly shaved head from UV radiation from the sun and other sources, such as solariums. Cover your head and ears with a hat or beanie, apply SPF30+ or apply broad spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen to your head. The sun smart message will be promoted at all public events in 2010.
