Policies and legal stuff

  • Do I have to have public liability insurance for my shave event?

The Leukaemia Foundation has standard public liability insurance of $20 million which covers standard fundraising including World’s Greatest Shave – as long as you stick to all the event policies.

Your venue will also need to have its own public liability insurance.

If your venue needs proof of your cover, contact us and we’ll send you a copy of the insurance.

  • Why do I have to agree to the waiver?

It’s a requirement of our insurance cover that we have clear policies, and make everyone aware of the health and safety aspects of the event.

The risks with this event are very minor – including cuts, breathing in hair spray, allergic reaction to hair spray and being in a busy place with lots of other people.

Don’t worry, it’s really very safe as long as you use common sense and follow the policies in the “how to” guide on this site.

It’s also important that we have your permission to use any photos we take of you at a public event.

  • Is there an age limit – how old do you have to be?

There is no age limit to participating. If you are under 18, you must get permission from a parent or guardian and your school before participating. Click here to download the consent form.

  • Where do I send the Under 18 consent form to?

We don’t need to receive a copy of the consent form. It’s for you to keep to prove you have permission from your parent and school, in case questions arise after you’ve shaved. So keep it in a safe place for reference.

When you sign up we also ask you to provide the name and a contact number for your parent or guardian.

  • How can I make sure my shave event is safe?

Always keep the clippers clean and oiled during your shave event.

Brush the clipper blades between each shave and wipe the blades with a cloth and a few drop of hospital grade disinfectant (available from all supermarkets).

Every two or three shaves you may also need to put a couple of drops of clipper oil on the blades.  Make sure you wipe this off before shaving the next person.

If colouring hair we recommend temporary coloured hair spray – such as Cinta Intense Hair Spray.

Always cover people's eyes when spraying their hair – a small piece of cardboard, or plastic is best for this.

Asking Professional hairdressers to help at your event is always a good idea as they deal with safety and comfort of clients every day.

Always sweep up unwanted hair – a dustpan and brush is best for this.

Shavers, sprayers and sweeper-uppers should all wear disposable gloves during your event.

The Material Saftey Data Sheets for all these products can be downloaded from the tips tab on this website – http://www.worldsgreatestshave.com/fundraise-2012/downloads/
