Sponsorship and Fundraising
How do I get more sponsors?
Remember that by asking someone to sponsor you, you are actually
GIVING them an opportunity to support an extremely worthwhile cause.
So cast your net wide; family and friends, colleagues, business contacts,
mates at the pub/club, staff from other companies in your building,
suppliers, clients. Ask from a worthy and legitimate position and
people will find you hard to resist!
How to raise $500 in a week
Can my company make a gift?
Absolutely! Many companies will match monies raised by staff at events such as WGS; it’s great PR and staff relations!
How do I raise more money?
Again, you are offering an ‘opportunity to give’ so do not be afraid to ask people if they would like to increase their sponsorship or make an additional direct gift to the Leukaemia Foundation.
How can I take sponsorship by credit card?
Ask your sponsors to visit www.worldsgreatestshave.com and sponsor you online – a tax deductible receipt will be automatically emailed to them once the sponsorship has been made. Alternatively fill in the credit card details on a blank, hand written, receipt in the back of your receipt book. The credit card will be debited when you return the book to the Leukaemia Foundation.
Your sponsors can also pay by Bpay, see page three of your receipt book for details.
Can I knock on doors in my street to ask for donations?
No. Do not doorknock your neighbourhood to collect sponsorship or promote the World’s Greatest Shave. In many council areas around Australia, doorknocking is illegal without a special permit.
Can hair be used to raise extra money?
Yes. Wigmakers will usually buy hair. But it has to be 14cm or longer, tied at both ends (before it’s cut), be non-colour treated and in good condition. Wigmakers are usually listed in the phone directory or at your local treatment hospital. The Leukaemia Foundation does not accept donations of hair but can put you in contact with a wig maker. Please do not send hair to us in the mail.
Can I collect the money as I go or do I wait until after the event?
We recommend that you collect as much as you can before you actually shave as this is usually easier than collecting after the event.
Your sponsors can also pay by Bpay, see page three of your receipt book for details.
Can I use some of the money I’ve raised to pay a hairdresser or to buy hair spray?
Your sponsors have donated money believing it will go towards the charity, so you must give it directly to the Leukaemia Foundation.
If you need a receipt for donated goods please contact the Leukaemia Foundation. Please note, Tax Office rules do not allow receipts to be written for donated services.
How much of my money goes to the cost of running World’s Greatest Shave?
14c out of every dollar pays for the cost of the campaign. Funds raised will go to providing support and care for patients and families living with leukaemias, lymphomas, myeloma, and other blood related disorders. The Leukaemia Foundation also funds vital research into treatments and cures.

Can I set a target so I only shave when I get to $x?
Yes, you can. A great idea is to commit to colouring your hair, and tempting your sponsors by saying you will shave if you reach your target. That way, you are doing something to your hair whatever you raise. It also means you won’t have to give the money back if you don’t reach your target and you and your supporters will have contributed to a worthy cause.
