About the Event

What is this event all about?

World’s Greatest shave is one of Australia’s biggest fundraising events. Nationally, more than 100,000 people will get themselves sponsored to shave or colour their hair.

People pledge to shave or colour their hair anytime from 12-14 March 2009.

You raise money by asking for sponsorship from everyone you know to see you with a shaved head or coloured hair. Because it’s normally seen as a sacrifice, as well as good fun, it’s usually fairly easy to raise money.

Some people do it on their own – it’s more fun if a team of you do it together. Think of getting your work mates, friends, family, business contacts or school together and have fun! Why not hold an inter-office challenge with other state or regional offices in your business?

Many people arrange their own event when they shave their hair; others prefer to attend public events which are listed on this website under Locations.

Why World’s Greatest Shave?

The Leukaemia Foundation currently holds the world record for 'Most heads shaved in 24 hours.' However, due to the large amount of paperwork and costs involved, we won't be trying to beat this record until we receive a serious challenge to our title!

When is World’s Greatest Shave?

The official 2009 event is from 12-14 March 2009. You can shave or colour at any time on these dates.

Can I shave or colour at another time of year?

Absolutely. You’re welcome to shave any time during the year. Call us on 1800 500 088 to discuss a time that suits you.

Is this the same as Bluey Day or Crop a Cop?

Bluey Day or Crop a Cop is an initiative of police officers and other emergency services across Australia who shave their heads in support of children living with cancer and other serious illnesses. In 1997 Crop a Cop was renamed Bluey Day. It is not associated with the Leukaemia Foundation or World’s Greatest Shave.

How much of my money goes to the cost of running World’s Greatest Shave?

14c out of every dollar pays for the cost of the campaign. Funds raised will go to providing support and care for patients and families living with leukaemias, lymphomas, myeloma, and other blood related disorders. The Leukaemia Foundation also funds vital research into treatments and cures.
