Mum’s memory inspires Redhead

Samantha Sharp has seen the devastating effects of blood cancer from a young age and has decided 2010 will be the year she will do something to help.

She was only fourteen when her mother developed cancer and remembers the toll it took on the family. Sam also recalls the impact on teenagers with leukaemia who became her friends during the many long hours spent visiting her mother in hospital.

“I remember watching a ‘shave’ event with mum once when she was having chemo and had no hair herself – we joked that she should take part. I think Mum always knew I would do something one day and this World’s Greatest Shave, I’ll be going bald!” explains Sam.

Sadly Sam’s mother passed away in October 2008 but with the support of family, friends and the small community in south coast Western Australia, aims to raise $5000 to further research and free services to support patients and their families.
