Sisterly love

Nicole Hansson’s world was turned upside down when her youngest daughter, Haleena, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia at just four years of age.

Since Haleena’s diagnosis in September 2009, the Hansson family has experienced a rollercoaster ride of emotion, hospital visits and medical treatments. Nicole has witnessed Haleena’s pain, endurance, spirit, innocence, terror and bravery – all this in a matter of months.

While Haleena bravely copes with her illness and receives life-saving chemotherapy, big sister Hanna has boldly taken it upon herself to get involved in World’s Greatest Shave.

“I’ve decided to colour my hair at school on 11 March and raise money to help my beautiful sister and other sick kids who are going through the same experience,” said Hanna. “It’d be great if people sponsored me online and joined ‘Team Haleena’ on Facebook.”

Loving mother Nicole said she is extremely proud of her two courageous girls. “We are experiencing the grief of a leukaemia diagnosis first hand, which makes us truly appreciate the difference the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave makes to the lives of patients and their families who are affected by leukaemia and related blood disorders.”
